Market intelligence platform TrendForce says 210mm n-type technology is “on track to lead a new industrial revolution.” It expects 210mm modules to account for 78.29% of the large format module market this year, increasing to 82.51% by 2027.
According to Taiwan’s TrendForce, cumulative deliveries of 210mm PV modules exceeded 260 GW in the first quarter of this year.
The analysts said seven of the top ten module manufacturers are now making 210mm n-type modules, with Trina Solar, Risen Energy, Tongwei and Huasun all now mass-producing panels above 700W.
“It is clear that the 210mm n-type modules will become the main choice on the market,” said TrendForce.
The research firm forecast a 51.8% annual increase in 210mm module production capacity to around 1,105 GW in 2024. That would represent 78.29% of the large format panel market this year and 82.51% in 2027.
The analysts said large format wafer production will also continue to accelerate, with capacity expected to reach 1,174 GW this year. Large format wafers are now responsible for almost 99% of total wafer production. In 2023, 210mm and 210R wafers accounted for more than 38% of the market total, up 46% year-over-year.
“A dominant trend in the industrial chain is the concentrated focus on the advancement of n-type, large format and thin wafers… 210mm (including 210R) has emerged as the next mainstream standard, marking a new phase in wafer development heralds,” said TrendForce.
Production of large format cells is expected to reach 1,549 GW this year. TrendForce said 210mm cells will account for 1,296 GW of all large format cells, representing an 82.66% market share. The market share will increase to almost 92% by 2027.
In addition, TrendForce said the production capacity of all n-type cells will reach approximately 1,078 GW by the end of this year, accounting for almost 69% of the total cell market. Tunnel oxide passivated contact cells (TOPCon) will account for approximately 909 GW of n-type cell production, or 58% of the total n-type cell segment.
“Continued technological innovation and product upgrades drive the advancement of the PV industry,” said TrendForce. “The 210mm n-type technology will lead a new industrial revolution, which will promote the high-quality development of the new energy sector.”
