SEG Solar (SEG), a Texas-based module manufacturer, has started deploying n-type cell production lines in Indonesia’s Kawasan Industri Terpadu Batang industrial park, 390 km east of Jakarta.
Solar panel manufacturer headquartered in the United States SEG solar energy (SEG) has started construction work on its integrated photovoltaic industrial park in Kawasan Industri Terpadu Batang (KITB), Indonesia, 390 km east of Jakarta.
Located in Grand Batang City, Central Java Province, the SEG Indonesia solar industrial park project will have an investment of more than $500 million and cover more than 40 hectares.
Phase one of the project will see the construction of ten n-type cell production lines, targeting an annual capacity of 5 GW, with expected completion in the second quarter of 2025.
Texas-based SEG plans to collaborate with other suppliers of solar components, including wafers, blocks, junction boxes, frames and ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) films, to set up manufacturing facilities in Indonesiapaving the way for extensive business development across the entire solar value chain.
Michael Eden, co-founder and general counsel of SEG Solar, said the company’s factory is key to its global strategy and plans to build a highly efficient and competitive vertically integrated photovoltaic industrial park, allowing for the upstream and downstream layout of the n-type industry chain are optimized.
“The solar cells and solar panels produced in this industrial park will support the Indonesian government in its carbon emissions reduction plan and will supply SEG Solar’s modules in the US in Houston, ensuring traceability and reliability of the supply chain are guaranteed,” KITB president and director Ngurah Wirawan said. “This project will be a key driver in accelerating the transformation of green industry in Indonesia and the Southeast Asia region.”
Deputy Minister of Investment Promotion of the Indonesian Ministry of Investment Nurul Ichwan said the official start-up of SEG’s Indonesian factory marks a solid step for Indonesia in promoting renewable energy and developing a green industry with foreign investment.
“SEG’s investment in Indonesia will boost local economic development and strengthen Indonesia’s position in the global renewable energy sector supply chain. The industrial park is expected to create more than 3,000 jobs, providing employment and economic vitality to the local community,” he said.
Grand Batang City is the largest state-owned industrial estate supported by the Indonesian government and is a national strategic project.
