Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Developer Root-Power has received a building permit for a new BES of 50 MW/100MWH in Reading.
The Wity Place Bess is located in Silchester. It was chosen because it was ideally placed close to Bramley station, which is less than 500 meters away from the site and was recently strengthened as part of a long-term development strategy for the local network.
The project is located on Green Belt-Land and Root-Power states that it has worked to ensure that the development visually maintains the surrounding agricultural area, as well as creating complex acoustic engineering to ensure that there is no net increase in background noises. To achieve this, Root-Power worked closely with the local ecology team and the highways department of the Local Planning Authority, whereby also ensured that existing trees and hedges around the development would be stored.
Neil Brooks, managing director at Root-Power, called the solutions used to secure the building permit on the Green Belt country, a “will of the possibilities of our development team”. He added that the project will be “an important part of our plans for the coming years.”
A connecting date of 2027 is secured for the two -hour duration Bess, and the construction on site is expected to begin at the beginning of 2026.
A large year for Root-Power
This is the sixth Bess for which Root-Power has protected the building permit in the past three months, and the fourth that is located on Green Belt-Land. Last week the company announced that it received a building permit for a berry of 30 MW/60MWH in Greater Manchester, the Ellen Road Bess. In contrast to the Withy Place Bess, this development will be located next to the M62 -Velweg near Rochdale, Greater Manchester, a site opted for the limited agricultural potential and high levels of environmental background sound.
In February, Root-Power announced that the building permit had been granted for a 40 MW/80mWh Bess in Rotherham; Just like the Ellen Road Bess, this is also next to a large highway. Earlier that same month, the company insured the planning state for the Dounreay Bess, a project of 34 MW/68MWH in the Scottish Highlands; Once connected to the grid in 2026, the Bess Noord -Scotland and the Orkney Islands will serve.
At the end of January, the developer received the planning permission for a project in Selby, North Yorkshire. Once completed, the 40MW/80mWh Osbodby Bess will yield a net profit of 40.72% and local roadupgrades to the area.
Since the launch last year, Root-Power has focused on an ambitious pipeline. Shortly after the launch as a specialized Beers-offshoot from Ylem Energy, the developer appointed the Planning Advice Agency LANPRO, PWA Planning, RCA Regeneration, ELG Planning and Clive FAGG planning, to accelerate the delivery of a Bumper 40 projects BESS pipeline.
