Schneider Electric announced Domaine Carneros, grower producer of Ultra-Premium Carneros sparkling wine and limited production Pinot Noirs, last year reduced his carbon emissions by using a solar energy-driven Microgrid, with $ 70,000 to annual savings.
In the heart of Napa Valley, Domaine Carneros has implemented the Ecostruxure Microgrid of Schneider Electric, a standardized, validated Microgrid platform that manages the energy generation of the winery. Due to the use of solar arroys and the Microgrid, Domaine Carneros generates almost 80% of its energy for winery activities such as fermentation, bottling and wine tastings.
“Implementing a resilient and energy-efficient Microgrid solution has been crucial for the activities of the winery in the light of an increasing number of rejections of public safety and extreme weather conditions that have significant threats for the wine industry in California,” said Jana Gerber, North American. “The system enables the winery to manage energy from its solar panel, battery and generator, which offers backup power. All this is managed via our Microgrid control elements, so that seamless power can be supplied to the winery. “
The winery manages its energy consumption via the Ecostruxure Microgrid advisor software platform from Schneider Electric, which uses AI to control the energy generation of the on-site distributed energy sources (Ders). The implementation of the Microgrid doubled the capacity for energy generation of Domaine Carneros compared to the solar system that the winery originally installed 20 years ago. Excess solar energy is stored in the on -site battery for use at night or during a power failure, and the back -up generator is available to offer extra energy when Zonne -Energy is not available.
“Our ability to make wines of the highest quality and create the most memorable wine experiences depends on a reliable and efficient energy source,” said Remi Cohen, CEO of Domaine Carneros. “With Schneider Electric’s advanced Microgrid technology, we have brought about a revolution in our energy infrastructure and to maximize our use of renewable energy consumption. At a time when power outages occurs more and more, due to forest fires and heavy weather, this is crucial to keep our activities online. “
With the Microgrid, Domaine Carneros can have full self -supply during power outages. This allows the winery connecting and disconnecting the grid, which makes it possible to operate in “Island Mode”, with a battery that stores energy for use if necessary. If the power grid falls, or the electricity prices peak, the Microgrid responds, offering a continuous power supply during disturbances to the grid and the prevention of surplus demand for electricity during peak hours.
Schneider Electric collaborated with Powerflex, a division of EDF -renewable energy sources, to design the Microgrid. Powerflex offered the electrical infrastructure to integrate the solar power and the battery storage system.
