The real North Solar project of Avangrid near Waco, Texas, has reached commercial operation. It is Avangrid’s largest solar project so far, at 321 MWDC.
True North supplies electricity to the Texas Grid and supports the activities of Meta, including the upcoming data center in the adjacent Temple, the second data center facility in Texas. By one Recent report from the US Dept. or EnergyData centers can rise to 12% of American power consumption by 2028, about three times last year’s level. Projects like these are crucial to support this demand growth and to ensure that local communities have resilient power for houses and companies.
“True North is a milestone project for Avangrid and we are proud that it generates electricity for the Texas Grid,” said Pedro Azagra, CEO of Avangrid. “With an expected flowering in the construction of data centers in the coming years that will considerably increase the demand for energy processing, projects such as True North are vital and they will ensure the resilience and reliability of the Texas Electrical Grid.
True North created around 300 jobs at the height of construction, most of which were filled by people from the surrounding region. True North represents $ 369 million in investments in Central Texas. It is expected to contribute more than $ 40 million in real estate tax throughout his life, which means that public services will directly benefit public services in Falls County and the surrounding communities, in particular schools. True North also supports various permanent, full -time jobs for current activities in the facility.
Avangrid used Array technologies trackers on the project.
“Array Technologies is proud to support Avangrid in delivering reliable, renewable energy through the True North Solar project,” said Kevin G. Hostetler, Chief Executive Officer of Array. “Our solar trackers made in their own country support American jobs and designed to optimize energy production, so that projects like these can meet the growing demand for electricity. This milestone emphasizes the strength of American production and the crucial role of innovative solar technology in feeding the future.”
Avangrid collaborated with Black & Veatch to design and build the True North Solar project.
“We are expanding a sincere congratulations to our partner in Avangrid by reaching the first commercial operation of True North Solar,” said Jim D down, president, power providers for Black & Veatch. “Our teams have endured many challenges during this project. The completion of such a monumental task requires grit, determination and strong intersections. Black & Veatch is proud to be part of this project to deliver reliable energy to Power Central Texas.”
