Onyx Renewables announced the completion of phase 3 of his Onsite Zonne energy project in the US Army Garrison Fort Riley in Kansas. The latest development phase, carried out in collaboration with sustainable infrastructure solutions, will generate this latest development phase an additional 43 MW of clean energy, offering stable electricity rates and energy security to housing communities of Fort Riley.
The total installed solar capacity in the military garrison is now exceeding 16 MW, making it one of the largest projects for renewable energy consumption in Kansas. Phase 3 of the project includes the first solar panels mounted on the ground in Fort Riley. Previous phases – completed in 2018 and 2021 – consisted of installations on the roof. About 40% of the annual electricity needs of the Fort Riley -Woningbouw community are now supported by reliable clean energy.

To complete the newest Fort Riley installations, Onyx collaborated with Power Factor, a preferred contractor who employs countless veterans and gives priority to hiring former service members. Through the Solar Ready VETS program and employment initiatives of the Department of Energy, such as USO Pathfinder, the development team was able to offer well-paid jobs for clean energy to former members of the military service.
