Enphase Energy today announced that it is expanding its support for virtual power plants (VPPs) in Puerto Rico and Colorado, powered by the IQ Battery 5P.
Grid Services programs are offered by electric utilities and often use energy stored in home batteries to reduce the load on the electric grid when it is most needed, such as peak demand for electricity periods. This reduces the dependence on expensive and polluting power plants for electricity and can in exchange offer incentives to homeowners of their utilities. Incentives can be provided as a discount on the purchase of an Enphase energy system with IQ batteries or as current payments to participating homeowners. Homeowners have recently been eligible to register for the following programs:
Luma Energy Puerto Rico Customer Battery Energy Sharing Program: Participants in Puerto Rico have registered in this program with three IQ -battery 5Ps are eligible to receive around $ 1,000 a year if the batteries provide up to 80% of their energy capacity during each question. Read more about the details of the program on the Enphase -Website or by registering for the coming homeowner informative webinar (in Spanish).
“We are very happy that the IQ batteries that we use in our communities can go to make the grid more reliable for everyone,” said Carlos Martínez Muñoz, CEO of Solar Roots, an installation program of Enphase products in Puerto Rico. “Grid Services programs help to contribute solar and storage systems to a larger good at home.”
